Great Tew Ironstone
Great Tew ironstone has a wide variety of suitable applications. The use of the stone through both this and other local villages shows how, many centuries later, it’s original use as a building or walling stone is as appropriate today as it was then. Whether as cut ashlar, cut and tumbled building stone or cropped walling stone, most design requirements should be easily met. Ironstone in large block form will also produce excellent architectural details, mullion windows, copings, quoins etc, and more recently a variety of different types of internal flooring has been produced. The smaller block, less suitable for proccessing, has also been widely used as rockery stone or as one-off garden features.
